  1. 1.) An element of modern fantasy would be Personified Animals. One popular book dealing with personified animals would be Charlottes Web. In Charlottes Web, it is based on a farm where Charlotte the spider calls the entire cast of barnyard animals into action to save Wilbur the pig. Both animals are able to talk to each other. I found this internet site where it lists other books under "Animal Fantasy" http://www.uwosh.edu/library/emc/bibliographies/emc-bibliographies/modern-fantasy-books-for-children-and-young-adults#animal%20fantasy

2.) The category in science fiction i choose is "Projecting Scientific Principles". Projecting Scienfic Principles are often in an everyday setting not unlike to the real world. The book I found is Eva, which is an example of a book in which a scientific principle is explored about a possible future. After an accident, a girls body is destroyed but her brain survives and is transplanted into a chimpanzee's body. In this internet site it explains the book Eva more and tells you that it is from a future world. http://peterdickinson.com/books/eva/

  2. One element of modern fantasy is "Magical Powers". A book discussed in the chapter would be "Tuck Everlasting". I haven't had the chance to read the book but I love the movie. I am betting the book is a lot better, though. Tuck Everlasting has the ultimate magic in it: a spring that gives eternal life from those who drink from it. The source of this water is not explained nor does the story offer an explanation on how the water gives eternal life. I could not find the best of websites for books with magical powers, so this is what I was able to find. https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/magic-powers : Good reads is a great website. I enjoy it. I like the fact that you can keep track of what books you have read, want to read, or are currently reading.

A category in Science Fiction that I have chosen is Surviving Environmental Catastrophes. Some science fiction deals with survival in the future, following some kind of environmental catastrophe. This could be a nuclear holocaust, pollution, overcrowding, or destruction of other aspects of the Earth's environment. A book in this category would be Floodland. This books is about a future in which global warming melts the polar regions and causes most of the land masses to disappear under water. A young girl is seperated from her parents, builds a boat to get to them and along the way helps a group of kids who are stranded on an island. Here is a website that gives more detail about the book "Floodland". http://www.readingmatters.co.uk/review/floodland

    1. I have also watched the movie of 'Tuck Everlasting' and not read the book...but I bet you are right, I'm sure the book is better!! It always is! I have used the good reads website for book reviews but didn't know about the tracker system....love it! 'Floodland' is a new book to me and looks great. Great descriptions of the elements! Well done, Monique.

  3. The element of modern fantasy that I chose was “Personified Toys” and the book that I chose was A. A. Milne’s “Winnie the Pooh.” Personified toys are types of fantasies that children enjoy because the toy comes to life. In “Winnie the Pooh” all the animals such as the bear, donkey, owl, tiger, piglet and rabbit come to life and are friends to Christopher Robin the real life boy.

I really couldn’t find a site that I liked that would help support Personified Toys. I read an article about how infants and toddlers have security blankets. These security blankets take on a role just like a personified toy and how children make those connections with the security blankets because the blanket has a character. This is just a theory but I kind of believe this theory because My nieces and nephews as well as my own children have a special blanket that they connect too.
