For class on Monday, February 3

I can't see how you are able to take the online quizzes with the new edition of the textbook. Ch. 1 and 2 were similar enough that you should have been able to get by but it changes from there. SO...do not worry about doing Ch. 4 quiz but be sure to read Chapters 4 for class discussion!  (Topic:  Diversity in Text)  We will do Ch. 3 and Picture books next week along with the genre book-study presentations!

There is an update syllabus with the new schedule on the MY UTTC website.

UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE!

It has been brought to my attention that I have an older edition of the class textbook than you just purchased at the bookstore. I will need to make some updates to the weekly agendas. I will have that ready by next Monday.

WOW...Sure missed everyone that was not in class!! Remember if you miss one night of class, it is like missing 3 days of class. :( The highlighted items above will be looked at in class next Monday.

Assignments that are due next week:

  • Bio-bags...I would still like to see these from all students. Remember that I modeled an example of a bio-bag on my first screencast on the first blog entry. There is also a rubric on the MY UTTC website so you will know what I expect. (Was due tonight.)
  • Genre-Book Study for a Native American Book (Form on UTTC)...this was to be done in class tonight. There is model of a genre book study on the UTTC website.
  • Presentation for Native American Book (Rubric on UTTC)...this was to be done in class tonight.
  • Genre-Book Study for a Picture Book (Form on UTTC)...see Resources at the end of chapter 3.
  • Presentation for a Picture Book (Rubric on UTTC)
  • Read Chapter 4 and Do quiz on Diversity....make sure you are using the chapter quiz that corresponds to the 4th Edition.
I know this looks like a lot but most of it was to be done in class tonight or was due by tonight.  We will cover Picture Book (Ch. 3) next week and review Diversity in Text (Ch. 4).

SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!!!

No class on Monday, January 20…do this assignment.

As you probably know by now…We do not have class on Monday, January 20, 2014 as there are no classes past noon of that day.

So I have a short assignment update.

Complete quizzes and blog posts as soon as possible. That way I can get scores entered and we will be on a rolling start to our semester.  Have the Chapter 1 and 2 quizzes along with the first blog entry completed by Jan. 20… I know some of you have gotten started!

This short assignment is due on Monday, January 27. Be ready to share your "Personal bio-bag" that day! Bring your binder so that we can discuss them. Also, bring copy of the syllabus so I can collect the signature sheets.

Chapter 3 - Read pages 65-70 only. (Do not do the quiz for this chapter!)

Write a response to the thoughts below in the comment section of this blog entry!

1.  Think of a time that you got caught up in the world of a story. Write which story/book you have been "caught up in." Then describe your connections to personal experiences and your thoughts and reflections of the book.

2.  How can you help students become lifelong readers?

I guess we will see you on January 27!! It will be exciting to actually meet and have class!
